Role of Salivary MicroRNA and Cytokines in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma. Int J Mol Sci. 2021 Nov 11;22(22):12215http://hdl.handle.net/10668/4153Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most prevalent oral malignant tumor worldwide. An early diagnosis can have a major positive impact on its prognosis. Human saliva contains cytokines, DNA and RNA molecules, circulating cells, and derivatives of tissues and extracellular vesicles, among other factors that can serve as biomarkers. Hence, the analysis of saliva may provide useful information for the early diagnosis of OSCC for its prognosis. The objective of this review was to determine the potential usefulness of salivary biomarkers (cytokines and microRNA) to diagnose OSCC and improve its prognosis. A combination of salivary miRNA and proteomic data could allow a definitive and early diagnosis to be obtained. However, there remains a need to optimize and standardize the protocols used to quantify miRNAs.enAtribución 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Salivary biomarkermicroRNACytokinesOral pathologyDiagnosisOral cancerSquamous cell carcinomaBiomarcadoresMicroARNsPatología bucalDiagnósticoNeoplasias de la bocaCarcinoma de células escamosasMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Peptides::Intercellular Signaling Peptides and Proteins::CytokinesMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Animals::Chordata::Vertebrates::Mammals::Primates::Haplorhini::Catarrhini::Hominidae::HumansMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Nucleic Acids, Nucleotides, and Nucleosides::Antisense Elements (Genetics)::RNA, Antisense::MicroRNAsMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Proteins::Neoplasm ProteinsMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::PrognosisMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Nucleic Acids, Nucleotides, and Nucleosides::Nucleic Acids::RNA::RNA, NeoplasmMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Fluids and Secretions::Bodily Secretions::SalivaMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Peptides::Salivary Proteins and PeptidesMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Neoplasms::Neoplasms by Site::Head and Neck Neoplasms::Mouth NeoplasmsMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Neoplasms::Neoplasms by Histologic Type::Neoplasms, Glandular and Epithelial::Neoplasms, Squamous Cell::Carcinoma, Squamous CellMedical Subject Headings::Disciplines and Occupations::Natural Science Disciplines::Biological Science Disciplines::Biochemistry::ProteomicsMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::Early DiagnosisMedical Subject Headings::Information Science::Information Science::Communications Media::Publications::Review Literature as TopicRole of Salivary MicroRNA and Cytokines in the Diagnosis and Prognosis of Oral Squamous Cell Carcinomareview article34830096Acceso abierto10.3390/ijms2222122151422-0067PMC8624198
