Liquid Biopsy as a Tool for the Characterisation and Early Detection of the Field Cancerization Effect in Patients with Oral Cavity Carcinoma. Biomedicines. 2021 Oct 15;9(10):1478http://hdl.handle.net/10668/4333Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) constitutes approximately 25% of all head and neck cancer, for which the consumption of tobacco and alcohol are the main associated risk factors. The field cancerization effect of OSCC is one of the main reasons for the poor survival rates associated with this disease. Despite some advances, its ccharacterization and early diagnosis continue to challenge modern oncology, and the goal of improving the prognosis remains to be achieved. Among new early diagnostic tools for OSCC that have been proposed, liquid biopsy appears to be an ideal candidate, as studies have shown that the analysis of blood and saliva provides promising data for the early detection of relapses or second tumours.enAtribución 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Oral cell carcinomaField cancerizationLiquid biopsyTobaccoSalivaEarly diagnosisCarcinoma de células escamosas de cabeza y cuelloBiopsia líquidaTabacoDiagnóstico precozDetección precoz del cáncerMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Stomatognathic Diseases::Mouth Diseases::Mouth NeoplasmsMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Neoplasms::Neoplasms by Histologic Type::Neoplasms, Glandular and Epithelial::Carcinoma::Carcinoma, Squamous CellMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Plants::Viridiplantae::Streptophyta::Embryophyta::Angiosperms::Solanaceae::TobaccoMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Fluids and Secretions::Bodily Secretions::SalivaMedical Subject Headings::Psychiatry and Psychology::Behavior and Behavior Mechanisms::Motivation::GoalsMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Neoplasms::Neoplasms, Second PrimaryMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Neoplasms::Neoplasms by Site::Head and Neck NeoplasmsMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Investigative Techniques::Epidemiologic Methods::Data Collection::Vital Statistics::Mortality::Survival RateMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Neoplasms::Neoplasms by Site::Head and Neck NeoplasmsMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::PrognosisMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Investigative Techniques::Epidemiologic Methods::Statistics as Topic::Probability::Risk::Risk FactorsMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::Early DiagnosisMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::Diagnostic Techniques and Procedures::Clinical Laboratory Techniques::Cytological Techniques::Cytodiagnosis::BiopsyMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Pathological Conditions, Signs and Symptoms::Pathologic Processes::Disease Attributes::RecurrenceLiquid Biopsy as a Tool for the Characterisation and Early Detection of the Field Cancerization Effect in Patients with Oral Cavity Carcinomareview article34680596open access10.3390/biomedicines91014782227-9059PMC8533108
