The Role of Exosomes Derived From Mesenchymal Stromal Cells in Dermatology. Front Cell Dev Biol. 2021 Apr 7;9:647012http://hdl.handle.net/10668/4168The skin is the largest organ of the human body and its main functions include providing protection from external harmful agents, regulating body temperature, and homeostatic maintenance. Skin injuries can damage this important barrier and its functions so research focuses on approaches to accelerate wound healing and treat inflammatory skin diseases. Due to their regenerative and immunomodulatory properties, mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have been reported to play a significant role in skin repair and regeneration. However, it seems that the secretome of these cells and exosomes in particular may be responsible for their functions in skin regeneration and the immunomodulation field. The present review aims to gather the available information about the role of MSC-derived exosomes for both in vitro and in vivo models of different skin conditions and to highlight the need for further research in order to overcome any limitations for clinical translation.enAtribución 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/Exosomes-based therapyImmunomodulationMesenchymal stem cell-derived exosomesRegenerative medicineSkin autoimmune diseasesSkin wound healingExosomasTerapéuticaInmunomodulaciónCélulas madre mesenquimatosasMedicina regenerativaEnfermedades autoinmunesPielCicatrización de heridasMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Cellular Structures::Intracellular Space::Cytoplasm::Cytoplasmic Structures::Organelles::Cytoplasmic Vesicles::Transport Vesicles::ExosomesMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::Diagnostic Techniques and Procedures::Physical Examination::Vital Signs::Body TemperatureMedical Subject Headings::Anthropology, Education, Sociology and Social Phenomena::Social Sciences::Anthropology::Anthropology, Cultural::Culture::Human BodyMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Stem Cells::Multipotent Stem Cells::Mesenchymal Stromal CellsMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Biological Phenomena::Biological Processes::RegenerationMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Biological Phenomena::Biological Processes::Regeneration::Wound HealingMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Therapeutics::Biological Therapy::ImmunomodulationMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Skin and Connective Tissue Diseases::Skin DiseasesMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Animals::Chordata::Vertebrates::Mammals::Primates::Haplorhini::Catarrhini::Hominidae::HumansThe Role of Exosomes Derived From Mesenchymal Stromal Cells in Dermatologyreview article33898436open access10.3389/fcell.2021.6470122296-634XPMC8058372
