Cells. 2021 May 12;10(5):1184http://hdl.handle.net/10668/3880The B cell scaffold protein with ankyrin repeats (BANK1) is expressed primarily in B cells and with multiple but discrete roles in B cell signaling, including B cell receptor signaling, CD40-related signaling, and Toll-like receptor (TLR) signaling. The gene for BANK1, located in chromosome 4, has been found to contain genetic variants that are associated with several autoimmune diseases and also other complex phenotypes, in particular, with systemic lupus erythematosus. Common genetic variants are associated with changes in BANK1 expression in B cells, while rare variants modify their capacity to bind efferent effectors during signaling. A BANK1-deficient model has shown the importance of BANK1 during TLR7 and TLR9 signaling and has confirmed its role in the disease. Still, much needs to be done to fully understand the function of BANK1, but the main conclusion is that it may be the link between different signaling functions within the B cells and they may act to synergize the various pathways within a cell. With this review, we hope to enhance the interest in this molecule.enAtribución 4.0 InternacionalAtribución 4.0 InternacionalAtribución 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/B cellsB cell receptorCD40AutoimmunityGenetic associationB cell scaffold with ankyrin repeatsTLR7BLKLYNTRAF6Células BAntígenos CD40AutoinmunidadAsociación genéticaMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Proteins::Carrier Proteins::Adaptor Proteins, Signal TransducingMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Genetic Phenomena::Genetic Structures::Genome::Genome Components::Genes::AllelesMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::AnimalsMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Immune System Diseases::Autoimmune DiseasesMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Immune System Phenomena::Immunity::AutoimmunityMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Antibody-Producing Cells::B-Lymphocytes::B-Lymphocyte Subsets::B-Lymphocytes, RegulatoryMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Biological Factors::Biological Markers::Antigens, Differentiation::Antigens, Differentiation, B-Lymphocyte::Antigens, CD40Medical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Antigen-Presenting Cells::Dendritic CellsMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Genetic Phenomena::Genetic VariationMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Animals::Chordata::Vertebrates::Mammals::Primates::Haplorhini::Catarrhini::Hominidae::HumansMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Proteins::Membrane ProteinsMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Animals::Chordata::Vertebrates::Mammals::Rodentia::Muridae::Murinae::MiceMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Genetic Phenomena::PhenotypeMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Investigative Techniques::Epidemiologic Methods::Statistics as Topic::Probability::RiskMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Cell Physiological Phenomena::Cell Physiological Processes::Signal TransductionMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Proteins::Membrane Proteins::Receptors, Cell Surface::Receptors, Immunologic::Receptors, Pattern Recognition::Toll-Like Receptors::Toll-Like Receptor 7Medical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Proteins::Membrane Proteins::Receptors, Cell Surface::Receptors, Immunologic::Receptors, Pattern Recognition::Toll-Like Receptors::Toll-Like Receptor 9Medical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Enzymes and Coenzymes::Enzymes::Transferases::Phosphotransferases::Phosphotransferases (Alcohol Group Acceptor)::Protein Kinases::Protein-Tyrosine Kinases::src-Family KinasesMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Genetic Phenomena::Genetic Variation::Polymorphism, GeneticMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Chemical Phenomena::Biochemical Phenomena::Molecular Structure::Amino Acid Sequence::Repetitive Sequences, Amino Acid::Ankyrin RepeatMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Cellular Structures::Chromosomes::Chromosomes, Mammalian::Chromosomes, Human::Chromosomes, Human, 4-5::Chromosomes, Human, Pair 4Medical Subject Headings::Diseases::Skin and Connective Tissue Diseases::Connective Tissue Diseases::Lupus Erythematosus, SystemicMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Amino Acids, Peptides, and Proteins::Proteins::Blood Proteins::Immunoproteins::Immunoglobulins::Receptors, Antigen, B-CellThe Role of BANK1 in B Cell Signaling and Diseasereview article34066164Acceso abierto10.3390/cells100511842073-4409PMC8151866
