A novel human tumoroid 3D model of sustained ACTH-secreting cell cultures to study critically needed therapies for Cushing's disease. EBioMedicine. 2021 May;67:103368http://hdl.handle.net/10668/4401The pituitary gland is a master endocrine organ composed of distinct hormone-producing cell types that serve as sensors to integrate central and peripheral signals in order to fine-tune whole-body homeostasis and control multiple physiological functions including growth, reproduction, metabolism, and stress [1]. Classically, pituitary tumours have been considered rare and benign; however, they represent the most common intracranial neoplasms and are often aggressive. Moreover, these tumours are highly heterogeneous, displaying strikingly diverse clinical behaviours that parallel the different pituitary cell subtypes from which they arise [2]. Currently, the in vitro and in vivo pituitary tumour models available are highly limited and, in the case of the corticotroph tumours producing adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), have been mainly restricted to ACTH-secreting murine cell lines (i.e., AtT-20 and AtT-20/D16v-F2) and transgenic/PDX mouse models (e.g., Crh^120/+ and POMC-SV40, among others), respectively [3].enAttribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 Internacionalhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/4.0/CorticotrophPituitary glandPituitary neoplasmsAdrenocorticotropic hormoneCushing's diseaseMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Hormones, Hormone Substitutes, and Hormone Antagonists::Hormones::Peptide Hormones::Pituitary Hormones::Pituitary Hormones, Anterior::Pro-Opiomelanocortin::Adrenocorticotropic HormoneMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::Diagnostic Techniques and Procedures::Clinical Laboratory Techniques::Cytological Techniques::Cell Culture TechniquesMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Animals::Chordata::Vertebrates::Mammals::Primates::Haplorhini::Catarrhini::Hominidae::HumansMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Endocrine System Diseases::Pituitary Diseases::Hyperpituitarism::Pituitary ACTH HypersecretionMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::Animals::Chordata::Vertebrates::Mammals::Rodentia::Muridae::Murinae::MiceMedical Subject Headings::Organisms::Eukaryota::AnimalsMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Endocrine Cells::CorticotrophsMedical Subject Headings::Diseases::Endocrine System Diseases::Pituitary Diseases::Pituitary NeoplasmsMedical Subject Headings::Chemicals and Drugs::Hormones, Hormone Substitutes, and Hormone Antagonists::Hormones::Peptide Hormones::Pituitary Hormones::Pituitary Hormones, Anterior::Pro-OpiomelanocortinMedical Subject Headings::Analytical, Diagnostic and Therapeutic Techniques and Equipment::Diagnosis::Diagnostic Techniques and Procedures::Clinical Laboratory Techniques::Cytological Techniques::Cell Culture Techniques::Primary Cell CultureMedical Subject Headings::Health Care::Health Care Facilities, Manpower, and Services::Health Facilities::LaboratoriesMedical Subject Headings::Anatomy::Cells::Cells, Cultured::Cell LineMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Reproductive and Urinary Physiological Phenomena::Reproductive Physiological Phenomena::Reproductive Physiological Processes::ReproductionMedical Subject Headings::Phenomena and Processes::Physiological Phenomena::Physiological Processes::HomeostasisA novel human tumoroid 3D model of sustained ACTH-secreting cell cultures to study critically needed therapies for Cushing's diseaseletter33993049open accessHipófisisNeoplasias hipofisariasHormona adrenocorticotrópicaHipersecreción de la hormona adrenocorticotrópica pituitaria (HACT)Enfermedad de CushingCorticotrofos10.1016/j.ebiom.2021.1033682352-3964PMC8206815
