RT Generic T1 Prophylactic positive end-expiratory pressure: are good intentions enough? A1 Fernández-Mondéjar, Enrique A1 Chavero, Ma Jesus A1 Machado, Juan K1 Humanos K1 Respiración con presión positiva K1 Síndrome de dificultad respiratoria del adulto K1 Medicina basada en la evidencia AB Few actions taken by intensivists are as effective andinexpensive as application of positive end-expiratory pressure(PEEP). However, the use of this ventilatory modality is highlysusceptible to fashions and trends that are rarely supportedby scientific evidence. Prophylactic PEEP can be consideredan exception, in that there is scientific evidence that it offersno benefit. Nevertheless, we must confess that we useprophylactic PEEP. The issue is worthy of some reflection.
