Several studies have reported the prevalence and incidence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) infection in liver transplant recipients [1]. Various case reports have also documented cases of HEV transmitted through liver graft and transfusion [2,3]. Nevertheless, there are no data about the prevalence of HEV infection in deceased liver donors. Studies evaluating the risk of HEV transmission are needed in order to assess whether the universal screening of both organ donors and recipients for HEV infection should be introduced into everyday clinical practice. The objective of our study was to evaluate the prevalence of HEV infection in liver donors and recipients
