Introduction Type 2 diabetes (T2D) has become a major public health problem worldwide. Its prevalence has been growing in recent decades due
to increasing obesity rates and population aging. More than a third of people over the age of 75 years have diabetes, and, this number is estimated to quadruple in the next 3 decades.
